I flew through the end of Twilight, reading about Bella traveling in the darkness of the night to outrun James, will she ever see Edward again??, almost skipping ahead at time just so I could see what was going to happen, and than boom, it was over. For now.. I did order New Moon from amazon.com, a mistake, I think, because now I am I wishing that I would have just gone to the store around the corner and bought it. But no worry, it should be here in a few days.

Tonight is a big event. The movie.. I get to watch the movie. I told myself that I would watch it during the book, so now, I'm going to lock myself in my room, like the obsessed 13 year old girl that I feel like, and watch it, completely uninterrupted.

Food and Vampires

I can't quite begin at the actual beginning but I can start right here and now.

What's going on in my life...currently:

My journey to be a chef is an interesting one. I am half way through the program at Sinclair and almost feel like the more I learn about cooking the less I get it... let me explain. Lets talk eggs. Hard boiled egg... simple right? Drop it in boiling water, wait 10 minutes and whammy! you have one perfectly cooked non-green egg. If it were only so simple. Seems that there are at least 4 different methods to cooking a hard boiled egg.. depends on who you talk to, where you are, what altitude you are currently in, and what type of egg it is! And that's just a hard boiled egg! I am extremely open minded when it comes to cooking.. I'll try *almost* anything, and will cook *almost* anything.

What I won't try: foie gras, veal, brains, sweetbreads, and blood (ie blood pudding)...

What I won't cook: fois gras, veal, brains, sweetbreads and blood..

It has been programmed into my DNA that eating the brain of another animal (or a human for that matter) is just not acceptable in my book. You do have to rule out, a case, in which, hopefully there will never be this case, that I am in a situation where I could horribly upset the host in a country that made me brains for dinner... I would choke it down.. but that's a matter of principle and I SURE wouldn't like it. I have been faced by people, one person in particular, that believes, and tells me so every day, that since I have a few culinary restrictions that it makes me less of a chef, and so much so I shouldn't be in culinary school to. Now I know this person will wolf down a whopper when the time comes, or has stopped occasionally for some of those delicious chicken mcnuggets. We all have our faults, but I wouldn't go so far to say he shouldn't be in culinary school. I am beginning to see people falling into specific areas of the culinary world. Some have a passion for grilling and BBQ, some love pastries, some love force meat. It's an interesting thing though.I like to see everyone working together in the kitchen, you get so many different perspectives on the same thing we are all cooking.

My theory on cooking is, if I won't eat it, I really can't get excited about cooking it. I will, but I won't put my heart into it. I like simple things. I like the idea of eating local, and simple.... particularly breakfast. I LOVE breakfast... everyone loves breakfast... whether it is at 6am, or brunch at 1:30pm or breakfast for dinner (I know we all had those nights as kids, and I sure got excited about the thought of scarfing down pancakes and sausage before bed.) I guess we all have to find out niche. It's a work in progress. At work I get to make lots of soups.. soup everyday, from scratch. And you know, I really get excited about it. People come into the restaurant everyday just to see what soup I made. It makes me smile when I think about what I get to make for the day. It's not veal brain, but I like it.

What got me excited about breakfast.. the Snow City Cafe in Anchorage, Alaska. It was beautiful. The whole place smelled of coffee, there art from local artists splashed all over the walls, the singles counter in front of the kitchen, and the 2 hour wait (some mornings) just to try the fresh salmon omelet. One word: Huevos Rancheros. If a restaurant has them, I'm going to eat them. It is an addiction. Nothing goes better together than warm tortillas, poached eggs, beans, salsa and guacamole. It is DELICIOUS.

A few of my favorite breakfast restaurants:

Snow City Cafe-Anchorage, AK
Tweet-Chicago, IL
Milk and Honey-Chicago, IL
Bunny's Hasty Tasty Pancake Shack-Dayton, OH

My other passion these days.... Twilight. What have I gotten myself into? I get excited about coming home just to read a few more pages, or stay up until 2am reading, just to see if they will finally kiss.. they did.. FINALLY. I can't put it down. What about the pale, beautiful Edward makes me keep reading.. I don't know. But I do know that most likely when I finish the book, and watch the movie (because I have told myself that watching the movie before finishing the book isn't a possibility).. it won't be as good as the book. But I read on, and have already ordered New Moon from Amazon.com. Geeezzz... I love it. I love everything about it.

The Beginning

And so it begins.
